Outlined below are some of the more popular art forms used to explore the Hindu faith.

Classical Indian Dance

Classical Indian Dance is one of the most popular and engaging of the workshops we offer as, it is through Kathak and Bharatanatyam Dance, that the stories from the Hindu faith are told. Dance is also an integral part of cultural celebration and is enjoyed at weddings and other happy occasions.

We have charismatic and talented dancers on our team who, through discussion and dance, are able to lead workshops which explore Hinduism or a particular festival or ceremony and show how through the dance, the stories of their Gods and Goddesses are told. They will wear some traditional dress and bring with them pictures and things for your pupils to look at to further enrich their experience and will be pleased to answer any questions which your pupils may wish to raise.

Drumming & Percussion & Art

In addition we have Asian drummers and percussionists who can run drumming workshops as well as visual artists who can teach the ancient art of Rangolis pattern making or Indian textiles or embroidery to name just two.

All of our workshops are designed to provide a valuable window into the lives and celebrations of Hindus and can be adapted for all ages and abilities including SEN.

The Benefits

These workshops aim to support and enrich your pupils' learning by helping to:

  • Engage, Educate and Inspire: through dance, music, art or drama, pupils will have the opportunity to work with an artist from a particular cultural and religious background
  • Develop Self Awareness: pupils are exposed to information about their own culture and other cultures which they may not have otherwise contemplated
  • Break Down Cultural Barriers: by challenging preconceptions, prejudices and stereotypes that obstruct our understanding of other people
  • Build Trust: allowing for greater cooperation and a more productive environment
  • Develop Interpersonal Skills: by learning about the influence of culture, i.e. the hidden factors upon people's behaviour, pupils will develop a greater understanding and sensitivity towards people which may have previously been lacking
