Outlined below are some of the more popular workshops relating to the Muslim faith.

Islamic Art

Unlike the Hindu faith, Muslims do not celebrate their religion through dance or music - though dance and music is an important part of Asian culture. Muslims do, however, celebrate through Islamic art and the most important and pervasive element is calligraphy which is considered to be the noblest form of art because of its association with the Qur'an. Another characteristic of Islamic art is the covering of surfaces with geometric patterns. The complexity of these designs, create the impression of unending repetition which is believed by some to induce the contemplation of the infinite nature of God.

Two of the more popular workshops we offer are on the geometric patterns found in Islamic art as well as Calligraphy workshops which can lead to a collaborative piece like a wall hanging. We have several charismatic and talented artists on our team who deliver workshops on the Muslim faith through discussion and the teaching of these art forms.

Dance & Drumming & Percussion

Alternatively our Asian Dance or Drumming and Percussion workshops are a wonderful way breaking down cultural barriers and celebrating diversity whilst learning about Islam and we would be only too pleased to talk through the options with you.

All of our workshops are designed to provide a valuable window into the lives and celebrations of Muslims and can be adapted for all ages and abilities including SEN.

The Benefits

These workshops aim to support and enrich your pupils' learning by helping to:

  • Engage, Educate and Inspire: through dance, music, art or drama, pupils will have the opportunity to work with an artist from a particular cultural and religious background
  • Develop Self Awareness: pupils are exposed to information about their own culture and other cultures which they may not have otherwise contemplated
  • Break Down Cultural Barriers: by challenging preconceptions, prejudices and stereotypes that obstruct our understanding of other people
  • Build Trust: allowing for greater cooperation and a more productive environment
  • Develop Interpersonal Skills: by learning about the influence of culture, i.e. the hidden factors upon people's behaviour, pupils will develop a greater understanding and sensitivity towards people which may have previously been lacking
