Bharatanatyam

Bharatanatyam is a classical Indian dance form originating in Tamil Nadu and is one of the oldest of the classical dance forms in India.  Bharatanatyam is usually accompanied by classical music and takes its inspiration from the sculptures of the ancient temple of Chidambaram. Bharatanatyam, as the name depicts is the combination of: BHA- Bhava (Expression), RA- Raga (Music) and TA- Tala (Rhythm) Bharatanatyam is a traditional dance-form known for its grace, purity, tenderness, and sculpturesque poses. Today, it is one of the most popular and widely performed dance styles and is practiced by many dancers all over the world.

We have a national team of classical Indian dancers, all of whom are talented Bharatanatyam dancers and teachers, experienced in working with pupils of all ages and abilities.

About Our Workshops

  • Bharatanatyam Dance workshops are suitable for all ages and abilities and SEN
  • They are fun, inspirational, educational and celebrate diversity and promote unity
  • These workshops also aim to teach pupils about Indian culture and the origins of the dance
  • Workshops can lead to a showing or performance if you so wish
  • The dance can be used to tell stories from the Hindu faith or to provide a window into one of their religious festivals or holy days
  • An assembly can be built in to the day if desired
  • We can take up to 30 pupils in each session
  • Session lengths range from 30 minutes to an hour (or more) depending upon the age of the pupils participating and your desired outcome
  • Workshop content is adapted depending on the age and experience of those participating
