Samba Drumming & Percussion

If there is a musical style that is associated with feelings of joy and happiness it is without a doubt Samba!

Samba is the most famous form of music arising from African roots in Brazil. The name "Samba" is thought to have originated from the Angolan semba (mesemba) which was an African drum and dance rhythm related to religious rituals. Samba as we know it today, developed as a distinctive kind of music at the beginning of the 20th century in Rio de Janeiro (then the capital of Brazil) under the strong influence of immigrant black people from Bahia. The Samba rhythm was used in song, dance and to parade during carnival time, and it is the latter that is the most joyous and the one most popular with schools!

So whether you want a Samba drumming and percussion workshop in isolation, or wish to link it to Samba Carnival Dance and Mask-Making, we can meet your brief! We can even help you to perform  your own carnival parade around the school grounds!

We have a national team of percussionists, all of whom are talented drummers and teachers, experienced in working with pupils of all ages and abilities.
